Two choices of career training:
CARPENTRY & OFFICE TECHNOLOGY
CARPENTRY
| Carpenters work with wood to build things. Carpenters do many different things in different kinds of jobs. Most carpenters cut, fit, and put together wood. They also build houses, bridges, and factories. Some of the things carpenters must know how to do include: putting up walls, putting in doors and windows, building stairs, putting in floors and roofs. Carpenters also need to measure and follow building plans. Union carpenters earn $75 an hour and get great benefits. Union carpenters will teach students at Job Corps. Students will have to finish a list of projects and work on team projects. After a student learns everything and finishes the program, Job Corps will help find work. Carpentry is perfect for the student who likes to work with his/her hands. This job pays great and will be in demand for a long time. |

The Office Technology program is for deaf people who are interested in college or to work in a office place. The program will teach many different computer skills and business skills to work in the office. The Office Technology program will also help deaf students improve in school and to get ready for college. Job Corps is working with Gallaudet and NTID to make it easier for a deaf Job Corps student to go to Gallaudet or NTID or other colleges. Technology is going up and up so many offices need people who know how to do many different jobs in the office. The Office Technology program will teach students how to type fast, feed data in computers, different computer programs, math for the office, English for the office, internet, computer layout, and many other things. Deaf students who join the Office Technology program will be ready for a job in an office place. Jobs for example are: data entry operator, word processor, accounting clerk, and medical billing clerk. Also deaf students can use what they learned and go to college. |
